FirstEnergy, Ballard to Demo 1-MW Mobile Fuel Cell System
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010Ballard Power and First energy are testing a large 1 MW fuel cell system. This is possibly the largest PEM fuel cell tested and the project is taking place in Eastlake Ohio. The system will be tested over the next 5 years. It will be interesting to see how this develops and also to understand where the high quality Hydrogen is sourced. Read more at FirstEnergy, Ballard to Demo 1-MW

Dynetek Cylinders now also in Korea
Friday, June 25th, 2010Dynetek from Calgary (and Germany) just announced a joint venture in Korea. Dynetek is one of many Canadian companies involved in the Biomethane/CNG space that are being successful with marketing CNG/Hydrogen technology outside of Canada.
Hopefully with all the practice these Canadian companies (IMW, Westport, Ballard and Xebec to name a few) get in selling to Korea, China, the rest of Asia, Middle East, Europe and South America, they will one day be able to convince their home market that gaseous fuel is a relatively good idea. After all Natural gas is available in large quantities in Canada (as presented at the CDEA conference in North Vancouver by Deputy Minister Paul Wierenga) it is cheaper (by 50% or more than Gasoline or Diesel), and cleaner (minimum 20% CO2 reduction) and could easily meet the fuel standard for 33% renewable by blending in a little bit of (“man or animal made”) biomethane into the CNG.
Ballard eyes profitability in 2011
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010Long-running fuel cell maker is improving margins and seeing revenue grow after a rough ride in 2009
Fuel cell maker Ballard Power Systems is often cited as two things in B.C.: one of the province’s most innovative companies and one of its longest-running unprofitable companies.
The Burnaby firm (TSX:BLD; Nasdaq:BLDP) took a number of steps in the last year to drop the latter moniker, but the lingering question is whether or not Ballard’s markets can rebound from two dismal years.
If they do, Ballard is projecting 35% revenue growth this year and a 30% improvement on cash flow from operations.
Those figures add up to profitability in 2011.
Canadian Alliance Fuels Future for H2 Forklifts
Thursday, April 29th, 2010
Hydrogen producer Praxair, Inc. and Praxair Canada have signed a strategic alliance with Canadian hydrogen fuelling systems provider company Powertech Labs, Inc. to jointly market and sell Praxair’s hydrogen and Powertech’s hydrogen fueling equipment to materials handling customers, specifically to distribution centers for hydrogen fuel-cell powered forklifts. Eamonn Percy, Powertech president, said “Distribution centers with large materials handling fleets are realizing the benefits of hydrogen fuel-cell powered forklifts. This alliance will help increase their productivity while potentially decreasing costs associated with operating traditional battery-powered forklifts.” Story from NGV Global News #6 |
