Suzlon gets 31.5MW wind turbine order from Sprott Power

Suzlon Wind Energy has received an engineering, procurement, construction order from Sprott Power Corp to supply 15 S97-2.1 MW wind turbines for its wind power project in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The project which is currently under development is slated for completion in March 2012.

At full capacity, the project will produce enough energy to power more than 11,000 Canadian homes.

Canada announces green energy funds

OTTAWA – The federal government announced Sunday it will spend up to $63.8 million for clean and renewable energy projects across the country that it says will help reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Minister of Natural Resources Christian Paradis made the announcement during a visit to a company which produces ethanol fuel, just east of Montreal.

The federal government re-announced $43 million in funding for renewable energy projects in Nova Scotia on Thursday.

The Abercrombie Point pulp mill received $28.1 million in funding for three projects that will reduce odour emissions, improve energy efficiency and environmental performance at the mill, announced Central Nova MP Peter MacKay, also the federal defence minister. Land and Sea explores algae’s use as fuel

Algae are amazing and “one of the most promising sources of green fuel anywhere on the planet,” he says sitting in the Halifax office of Tell Tale Productions with producer Peill.

Roadmap report points way to lower emission trucking in Canada

The Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance (CNGVA)  today welcomed the release of a roundtable report on natural gas use in the transportation sector.  The deployment roadmap report highlights the competitiveness and environmental benefits of introducing natural gas for trucking along key corridors and for urban fleets in Canada.

Atlantic Canada power deal reshapes market

Atlantic Canada will see a fundamental reshaping of its electricity market as a result of a $6.2-billion deal between Newfoundland and Labrador’s Nalcor Energy and Halifax-based Emera Inc.

A major deal leading to expanding regional ties in the power market was announced yesterday in the Atlantic provinces.  The agreement will lead to a reduction of green house gas emissions by 17% by 2020 according to the announcement made.  Read more here in the Globe and Mail story. Atlantic Canada power deal

Ottawa commits to investing $20 million in Nova Scotia tidal energy project

The federal government has committed to spending $20 million on tidal energy projects in the Bay of Fundy, a move that will help Canada become a “clean energy superpower,” Defence Minister Peter MacKay said Sunday.

Nova Scotia joins Canada’s green energy club

Nova Scotia has been quietly setting out ambitious targets for green energy, targets that surpass California’s. The Premier was even recently presented an award, at the Copenhagen meetings last December, for making North America’s first law on hard capping carbon emissions. Climate change is clearly important for the province that historically has strong links to coal. See more.

Possible sale of Confederation Power in Q3

Confederation Power has been awarded three power purchase agreements totaling 37 MW of contracted wind output this quarter. Along with other activity, these cross-country deals in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia have brought potential buyers to their door and value to First Asset PowerGen Fund, which invested in Confederation.
