New York Sun is Rising | Renewable Energy News Article
Saturday, January 12th, 2013The Governor called for a major expansion of his NY-Sun Initiative. The original NY-Sun, announced by the Governor at last year’s State of the State, called for doubling solar installations in 2012 and quadrupling in 2013. However, that program was too small and too intermittent–while helpful, it fell short of accomplishing the job of market transformation.
Apple Delves Deeper into Renewable Energy, Offers Wind Energy Storage Concept
Saturday, January 12th, 2013This past spring, Apple announced that it was building a 20-MW solar farm to help power its data center in Maiden, North Carolina. After construction was completed, it bought another 200 acres of nearby land to build an additional 20-MW solar farm, according to reports. The facility also contains a 5-MW biogas-powered fuel cell installation. Apple claims that it intends to power two additional data centers with renewable energy by early 2013.

Germany Meets Half Its Energy Demand From Solar, Briefly
Sunday, June 3rd, 2012Solar power plants in Germany peaked at 22 gigawatts of output for a few hours on Friday and Saturday, yielding almost half the countrys energy needs from the renewable resource and setting a new record in the process. The not-particularly-sunny country has long been a leader in solar power thanks to favorable policies like feed-in tariffs. In the wake of the decision to shutter all of its nuclear plants, solar power will need to play an even bigger role in the future. That 22 gigawatts of output is equal to about 20 nuclear reactors.
As Europe Slashes Subsidies, Renewable Energy Developers Move Into New Markets
Wednesday, May 30th, 2012Martin Simonek, an analyst at Bloomberg New Energy Finance in London, notes that Spain installed about 360 megawatts of solar in 2011 compared to 7.5 gigawatts in Italy. That country poses a bigger threat to renewable energy developers as Italian lawmakers contemplate slashing a premium paid for solar energy that could result in only 4 gigawatts being installed this year.
